Surfrider Foundation is a non-profit grassroots organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of our world’s oceans, waves, and beaches through a powerful activist network. Founded in 1984 by a handful of visionary surfers in Malibu, California, Surfrider Foundation now maintains over 50,000 members and 90 chapters worldwide.

We picked up over 800 lbs of trash at this Rudee Inlet Cleanup!

Welcome to the Surfrider Foundation Virginia Beach chapter website! Each chapter is individually managed and run by volunteers from the local community. The Virginia Beach chapter was revamped in 2012 and we have been gathering momentum and building our chapter back up ever since. We’ve produced a positive impact on our community and beaches through a dedicated group of like-minded individuals by holding regular monthly beach cleanups, educational events, and fun social events!

We have also initiated numerous campaigns and programs, including a new water quality testing and monitoring program, preserving beach and surfing access, reducing cigarette litter on the beach, and reducing the impact of plastics on our local waterways. If you are interested in participating and/or volunteering, please visit our Events or Local Campaigns page.
