The General Assembly of Virginia, should allow Va. Beach to make the decision, for or against cigarette smoking on the Bay beaches. It is not a lot to ask for, because our’s is a small beach on the Chesapeake Bay, and not the tourist attraction like our oceanfront. Our small beach could continue to be the place that mostly locals know about, & with the advent of an ordinance against cigarette smoking, could be a safe place for family’s and those who want to breathe fresh air.

I think there should be a ban because cigarettes are just plain nasty and the butts carry seriously bad
chemicals. I live at the beach and I like a clean beach. Plus, the thought of a little children reaching into
the sand and putting a butt in their mouth because they don’t know better. Yuch!!! If you want to smoke, do it in your car. Yes, I used to smoke and find it disgusting.

Let’s Recycle this litter to make Ashtrays and provide a place outside the banned beach to smoke, or you run the risk of the already proven consequence of a smoking ban, which is an increase of litter, since most bans include the exclusion of ashtrays at point were smoking is banned and allowed!
